Time Saving Garden Tasks

Here are a few heavy deterrent example of tasks you may do now that will save up you time and effort later on on in the garden .

But of all these things I ’d start with setting your garden up with irrigation and a timer . I realize if you have a small container garden then maybe lachrymation is warm and easy for you and it may even be something you enjoy doing and that ’s not bad .

But there is usually a time for all of us no matter how big or small our garden is when we want to go out of town , or we have a foresightful mean solar day at work , or it ’s just so raging outside that we do n’t desire to water our plants . When we have everything localize up on irrigation and a timekeeper we have the freedom to physically skip lachrymation .

Task 1 – Adjust Your Watering Frequency

As a general overview , in the commencement of the time of year when plants are unseasoned or when you ’re waiting for source to germinate you need to water for short flow of time but more frequently to keep the soil moist but not too saturated .

But as plants grow it ’s beneficial to water lento for longer periods of meter , and possibly less ofttimes to encourage sizable root system .

But this also change with the atmospheric condition and you should always test your soil moisture before watering .

For model we had an incredible month of May this year here in the Central Valley of CA . We had a few moderately ardent mean solar day but for the most part it was in the 70 ’s and 80 ’s and so there were many time throughout the calendar month that I only irrigate every few day .

What ’s great about this is that I have a digital timekeeper that can be jell to piss on whatever oftenness I choose , so as the weather warms up and I know everything require to be irrigate systematically I will set the actual timer .

But in the beginning of the time of year I just habituate the manual place setting and labour the button to water for a set period of time on the days when need .

These are the two timers I use and commend ,

Task 2 – Weed Often

The next of import garden task that I assay to reach day by day or at least weekly is weeding . It ’s one of my least favorite tasks but it has to be done .

I know this can often be one of the most overwhelming tasks for gardener and so I desire to give you a few crest to make this easier .

Start With Weeds Near Your Plants

If you only have minimum time , start out with the weeds that are grow near your plants . I ’ll often find myself knocking down big pot that are along the perimeter of my garden that are not truly sham the ontogenesis of works .

So if I only have 10 minutes to spend weed that is not where time should be spent . I should be pulling locoweed in my garden bed that are contend for food and body of water with my actual vegetables and fruits .

Mulch Garden Beds and Walkways

Next up is put down mulch . I have really long in ground row where I put down mulched up leaf from this last gloam . Then in my conjure up garden beds I havegarden straw .

The mulch really makes a huge remainder . In one of my long in ground rows , I work out of mulched up leaves and I do n’t have anything plant so it is currently unembellished dirt and there are tons of weeds growing .

But in the two rows mightily right on next to it that are planted , get urine , and do have mulch , there are minimal smoke .

Don’t Underestimate the Power of 5 Minutes Per Day

And then my last tip for weeding is to not underestimate what just a few minutes per day can do . If you have a lot of weeds , do n’t look at the full picture . That ca n’t make you palpate really overwhelmed .

Just accomplish a small area each chance you get and before you know it there will be fewer and fewer weeds .

Task 3 – Support Plants When Needed

The next task to facilitate your garden grow salubrious this year is to support your plants as necessitate . Many flora like Lycopersicon esculentum can get really big and without support they will fall over which means the works wo n’t be as levelheaded and the fruit can plunder .

I really do n’t like tomato plant cages but they are dependable than nothing . But they are very slight and your love apple plant is survive to outgrow the batting cage in no fourth dimension .

However , the tomato cages are bully for pepper plants . But when it come to tomatoes I like to use something really sturdy that I can continue to connect branches to .

We have our tomatoes grow along acattle panelarch . But you could also just set up up a singlecattle panelwitht - postsand that would be a bang-up trellis . Then as you control on your plants weekly you will need to go on tying up branches as the plants get bigger .

Tomatillos are another industrial plant that will profit from support and so I also have my tomatillos growing along the cattle panel arch as well . But many flora will gain from support of some kind and so pay attention to their growth habits and make trusted to tie them up or stake them as needed .

Task 4 – Prune Sparingly

The next point during summer is to prune sparingly . The thing with pruning your vegetable flora is that you do n’t have to do it at all if you do n’t want to . But if you do prune , do n’t overdo it .

Watch this telecasting here to learn more , To Prune or Not to Prune Tomatoes .

However , some pruning is great to keep plants good for you . For deterrent example , with my tomato works I wish to prune off any arm that are touching the soil because that will help forbid disease issues .

It ’s common to see many videos of gardeners pruning off all of the suckers and I do n’t wish to do this because sucker will produce more fruiting branches which means the more mug you prune , the less fruit you will have .

You also desire to verify you leave enough foliage to protect your fruit from the sun . Here inZone 9our summers are really raging and so the more foliage left on the plant to keep the tomatoes out of the lineal sun , the upright .

you may also prune squash and cucumbers .

I have two videos below where you may see the exact process .

Task 5 – Harvest Often

The next important labor is to harvest . We put so much work into growing our plants to get fresh fruit and veggie but during the red-hot summertime harvesting can actually sense like a challenge .

So make a design to harvest early or late in the day when the temperatures chill off so it ’s more gratifying .   But also ensure to check into on plants often so that you harvest at pinnacle sizing .

For example ,

Tomatoes and peppers are slow to ripen and can be left on the plant life longer .

Herbs need to be glean often . keep an eye on this video here to learn more , The Secret to Pruning herb to Promote Growth .

But many varieties grow really tight and should be go over on daily . A few usual summertime vegetables include okra , summer squash racquets , and cucumber .

Task 6 – Observe Your Garden

The last important labor is to observe . This may seem obvious but when we check on our garden frequently and notice changes we can take action quick .

For example , you may notice a industrial plant is get over or under watered . A pestilence or disease is appear . A flora is getting too much sun . Or a veg or yield is almost ready to harvest .

When we comment these things we can take the next steps before it ’s too late .
