garden
I am well - sprout with bulbs . Some are relics of the past , abstract from the containers they were plant in , stored in the shed since the spring . Most , however , are impudent in this class , bagged up and hold back to be planted . I spent a number of time a few week back scour the internet for compelling electric light go . I may have got carried away . Here is what I have :
The tulips will expect until November , potentially even December , as the frigidity in the ground allegedly drink down off the Tulip Fire computer virus they are susceptible to . The alliums and Narcissus pseudonarcissus need to get planted now so they have a chance to set up a good root web . In fact , arguably I ’m a niggling late with the Allium , whose planting advice says “ other fall ” . I calculate since there has n’t been a hoar yet , this still enumerate as early autumn if I get a move on .

I have a few alliums in Border 1 already and a few daffs scattered about , but I desire to meliorate the display .
My plans are thus :
boundary line 1 – Some of the new daffodil stock will go in here , combined with the old daffs and some of last twelvemonth ’s tulip .

Border 2 – Allium ‘ Aflatinense ’ & ‘ Negrus ’ , plus more daffs and groups of last class ’s tulip
Border 3 – daffodils and some of the honest-to-goodness tulips .
boundary line 4 – Allium ‘ Violet Beauty ’

Border 5 – some of the daffodil will go in the very boundary which gets a bit of sun
molding 6 – Allium ‘ Purple Sensation ’ . I might not fit 15 in here in which case I ’ll put some elsewhere .
I ’ve in reality finished the front garden bulb planting , at least in the delimitation .

margin 7 – daffodil aplenty in here , along with 10 of the allium ‘ christophii ’ . I cleared quite a bit of ground to do it ( polish off the nicotiana sylvestris , to which I ’ve take a dislike ) .
Border 8 – The rest of the genus Allium ‘ christophii ’ have gone in here , along with perhaps 30 daffodils . I ’ve planted most of the daffs in the less bright areas of the border , at the back , where the grunge is not great , a bit sandy – I hope they ’ll be OK there . The rest are in the front , constellate about between the penstemons and other perennials .
Border 9 – I ’ve constitute a mix of majestic ‘ Aflatinense ’ and blanched ‘ Negrum ’ Allium in here , dot in amongst the recurrent foxgloves . My hope is that the foxglove foliage will traverse the genus Allium foliage as it give out back . Some of the daffs have go in towards the back of the border , in the spaces between the cornus and the exochorda , and some more among the genus Helenium . Again , I ’m hoping that the genus Helenium and other leafage has begin to rise once the daff foliage is looking untidy . The timing of that may not be right , we shall see .

The tulips , adorable when in prime , are a minute of a hassle in the leaf department . After flowering the leaves need to be left to die off for 6 workweek or so , this time being necessary to get vim into the lightbulb , needed for its period of hibernation . They can look a bit untidy in the process . This twelvemonth ’s tulip were all in containers . I ’m not certain they ’ll come back very well next saltation , those are going out in the moulding . I ’m going to plant them up in 3 litre plastic stack first , then bury the pots where I want them . When the flower are done , I will take the pot of recuperating tulips and park them in a reclusive recess of the garden , where they can be happily untidy . Hopefully the foliage will be enough of a marker , but just in case I ’ll mark the spot of the pots for easy recovery . This ’ll sure figure out for keeping thing tidy , I ’m not certain how efficacious it will be at preserving bulbs for flowering in future year . We shall see .
The new tulips will all go in container for the patio and potentially the arena around the front door . I ’m go to take the same approach – imbed them up in shaping batch then insert those into the container , usually a larger more attractive green goddess . These heap liners can then be easily removed and stashed away , just like their primer - free-base cousins . This signify I can quickly replace the gone - over tulip with some seasonal colour . Next twelvemonth I ’ll repeat the process , cycling these through into the borders and replacing with new for the containers and pot .
Planting them out is frankly a huge pain , but fortunately for us , and for the bulb manufacture in universal , they are mythical when in prime , constitute it all deserving it .

I ’ll be back soon with more generation nonsense .
Note – with the exception of the head image , all pictures here are from online bulb catalogues – I go for to be able to show them photographedin situnext spring .
