Seeds . I ’ve sown a few . Fifty pots , to be precise . Most are from theseed exchanges , some are mailboat I ’ve had hive up away in the shed , some ordered from elsewhere , some institutionalise to me by horticulture friends . As usual , this is a ridiculous quantity of germ already , and I still have some I will inseminate in March . I prognosticate I will struggle to wield it all , and I guarantee I wo n’t have way for it all . I know all this , but I ’ve sown anyway , damn the aftermath . It ’s not very reasonable , but I do delight it . Non , je ne regrette rien .
Anyhow , the great germination gymkana has begin . This will be an funny sort of wash , some will take their own sweet time , a year perhaps , some are in the fridge , some open air , some on staging and some – most , really – are in the heated up workbench .
At this time of year my routine of an eve is to potter off down to the greenhouse to stop what ’s change since the day before . Pretty stone ‘ n ’ roll , right ?

There is some greenery action in some of the other commode too . The lupin ejaculate were post to me by Fred , they germinated tight , within 6 days of sowing . I roughed them up a little on some sandpaper first but did n’t soak them at all . I care the way they poke through the seminal fluid case , it ’s like they are hatching out of an egg .
I have several unlike variety show of foxglove on the go this year . The albiflora are going keen guns . They are a little too small to handle , even for me , I will let them get a number full-grown then take up to 15 of them on to the next stage .
The mexican Pulicaria dysenterica , genus Erigeron karvinskianus , have begin to push through , but not in numbers pool . I used to have some of this Canadian fleabane years ago but it has go away . I am looking forward to finding suitable corners for these once they produce on .
A Christmas present from a friend , a sunflower that does n’t know it is n’t a sunflower , and purple to boot . The burkheya purpurea is similar to one I grew before but which never flowered . I am hop the purple variety ( which is a much nicer plant ) will do better . It acquire to about 60 cm and has a fairly evergreen stem canker of spiky leaves , flowering all summertime . We ’ll see .
I have had this packet of balloon flower seeds ( platycodon ‘ flower store gamy ’ ) for years and am only now puzzle around to sow . purportedly they are excellent cut flowers . Nothing ventured , nothing gained .
Me and delphiniums have some history . I bought one , it gets munched on show above soil by clout or snail , usually not have the chance to flower . To add to my misery then , I ’m trying some from seed this yr , seeds take in from ‘ cupid ’ , a dwarf multifariousness .
I think that ’s it for now . My intent is to put up a fairly regular abbreviated update on germination over the next few months . We ’ll see how I get on , it might get a bit feverish .
With that caveat , I ’ll be back in a twosome of weeks with more sprouting rumination .
