If you have been follow along with me onFacebook , Twitter , Instagram , and of row here on Garden Therapy , you already know that I ’ve been decorating a dwarf for theBC Home and Garden Show’sBetter Gnomes and Gardens Feature benefitingSole Food Street Farms . Read more about thathere .

Today I ’m going to show you just how I transformed this :

into Woody :

Woody the Woodland Gnome

“ Woody ” populate deep within the forest where he escaped to in 1994 when he choke “ off the grid ” . He keeps his squat , hardy soma by writhe the rabbits at Jericho beach . His moss coat and lichen lid were knit by a garden gnome collective who jade of him looking like he was on his way to Wreck Beach and decided to take matters into their own hand . Woody sports an owl feather in his cap and a belt made from squirrel leather that he bronze himself .

To produce his timberland wait I first give him a undecomposed coat of pigment . ( Sorry about the creepy zombie gnome eyes ! )

I used leather for his bang . I cut out the material body to fit and used a hot glue grease-gun to tie the man .

Ceramic Gnome Before

Then I worked on mossing up his coat . I take in moss from a tree just down the street from me . It was dry on the tree diagram so it came off quite easily and was already the final deep green colour it will stay put . It was pliable as it had n’t quite dried up yet so it would n’t have been more perfect for this labor . It was very easy to mould onto the ceramic : I painted some white glue on with a brush and press the moss on to Woody . A couple of layer later and his jacket was all covered .

The same process was used for his lichen hat . I hear you over there … ”but that ’s reindeer moss ? ! ” It may be normally called moss but it is actually a type of fruticose   lichen , Cladonia rangiferina . I grease one’s palms this particular bunch of it , which was dyed lustrous greenish , at a slyness computer storage .

Plastic succulents , mini pine cones , anda snowy owl feathering I pull in from Boundary Bay , were all hot paste on to his cap . I really ( really ) wanted to add melodic line plants instead of the plastic succulents but I was n’t sure where his journey would take him from here . I know I would be persevering with water the plants , but would his adopted parent ? intemperately to have a go at it . Against my nature as an constituent gardener , I went for a few little plastic succulents , in an effort to make Woody as humbled care as possible .
