Some masses go to the beach to love the ocean . I do that ( a bit ) but mostly find myself reckon at plants , at garden .
So in late May I walked down the boardwalk atRehoboth , Delawareand stopped to admire the cedar tree - shake homes and specially the windswept plants that front just aright at the sea .
Quite a contrast with this derisory display of manicured turfgrass . It look even worse last fall when it was festoon with Trump signs . ( Why are we not surprised ? )

I make love this home and garden a block or two off the beach . The roses are Rugosas , not the common Knockouts .
A cunning beach cottage with Knockouts and whimsy , too .
This adorable home uses a big belt of Liriope to replace about half the lawn .

This hellstrip along the beach could sure a nice groundcover . Maybe just divide those daylilies .
Do n’t you just need to enclose all this plant that were dropped into the turf in one big border ?
I ca n’t figure out if this was once a monoculture hedge that lose a plant in the eye or if this was measured . Good example of the reward of using a mix of metal money in hedges .

This short patio , near the pavement and in apparent view of a motel , will never , ever have the privacy that someone thinks those sorry little Nandinas will offer for it .
I ’m told that this lovely lake just block from the heart of Rehoboth is too buggy to be enjoyed during the bug season , despite spraying by the city . Bummer !
I enjoyed breakfast on the front porch of my favorite B&B. There ’s lots more garden in the back.(Photos here . )

In nearbyLewesI get hold a lovely traditional landscape marred by a big mulchscape along the road .
In a urban center garden , another mulchscape , this one blob with sad little yearly .
On a happy note , I bet every gardener who buy the farm through Lewes stop to notice this stunning and complex curbside garden .

Here ’s a peek into that garden , which happens to be the weekend retreat ofHollyand Osamu Shimizu . He ’s alandscape designer;she ’s the retired managing director of the U.S. Botanic Garden , current interim president of the American Hort Society . So , no curiosity .
