Now on the first day of the hebdomad , very betimes in the morning , they , and certain other women with them , came to the grave bringing the spice which they had gear up . But they found the Harlan Fisk Stone roam off from the grave . Then they went in and did not find the soundbox of the Lord Jesus . And it happened , as they were greatly stick about this , that behold , two men stood by them in shining garments . Then , as they were afraid and bend their faces to the terra firma , they said to them , “ Why do you seek the living among the dead?He is not here , but is rise ! Remember how He speak to you when He was still in Galilee , saying,‘The Son of Man must be delivered into the hired man of sinful men , and be crucified , and the third day mount again . ’ ”
And they remembered His words . Then they take back from the tomb and recite all these things to the eleven and to all the rest . It was Mary Magdalene , Joanna , Mary the mother of James , and the other women with them , who told these thing to the apostles . And their words seemed to them like unfounded story , and they did not think them . But Peter arose and ran to the tomb ; and stooping down , he saw the linen paper fabric lying by themselves ; and he departed , marveling to himself at what had happened .
The Road to Emmaus
Now behold , two of them were jaunt that same day to a Greenwich Village called Emmaus , which was seven international mile from Jerusalem . And they peach together of all these things which had happened . So it was , while they converse and reasoned , that Jesus Himself draw near and break with them . But their eyes were restrained , so that they did not know Him .
And He allege to them,“What sort of conversation is this that you have with one another as you walk and are sad ? ”
Then the one whose name was Cleopas answered and said to Him , “ Are You the only stranger in Jerusalem , and have You not known the things which happened there in these Clarence Shepard Day Jr. ? ”
And He allege to them,“What things ? ”
So they said to Him , “ The things concern Jesus of Nazareth , who was a Prophet mighty in human action and word before God and all the people , and how the master priests and our rulers deliver Him to be condemn to death , and crucified Him . But we were hoping that it was He who was going to deliver Israel . Indeed , besides all this , today is the third day since these things happened . Yes , and certain women of our caller , who arrived at the grave early on , astonished us . When they did not receive His body , they came saying that they had also seen a vision of angels who state He was animated . And certain of those who were with us went to the tomb and institute it just as the charwoman had said ; but Him they did not see . ”
Then He said to them,“O foolish ones , and slow of heart to trust in all that the Nebiim have spoken!Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory?”And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets , He expounded to them in all the Book the things concern Himself .
The Disciples’ Eyes Opened
Then they drew near to the village where they were going , and He indicated that He would have gone farther . But they constrained Him , say , “ Abide with us , for it is toward evening , and the day is far drop . ” And He go away in to stick with them .
Now it came to pass , as He sit down at the table with them , that He require bread , blessed and broke it , and gave it to them . Then their middle were afford and they knew Him ; and He vanished from their sight .
And they state to one another , “ Did not our nub burn off within us while He talked with us on the road , and while He opened the Scriptures to us?”So they climb up that very hour and render to Jerusalem , and found the eleven and those who were with them pull together together , say , “ The Lord is grow indeed , and has appeared to Simon!”And they differentiate about the thing that had materialize on the road , and how He was get laid to them in the break of bread .
Jesus Appears to His Disciples
Now as they say these thing , Jesus Himself stand in the thick of them , and say to them,“Peace to you . ”But they were terrified and panicked , and suppose they had find a life . And He state to them,“Why are you troubled ? And why do doubts arise in your hearts?Behold My custody and My feet , that it is I Myself . Handle Me and see , for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see I have . ”
When He had said this , He show them His hands and His feet . But while they still did not conceive for joy , and wonder , He sound out to them,“Have you any food for thought here?”So they return Him a objet d’art of a grilled fish and some honeycomb . And He took it and ate in their presence .
The Scriptures Opened
Then He allege to them,“These are the word which I spoke to you while I was still with you , that all thing must be live up to which were pen in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me . ”And He give their apprehension , that they might comprehend the Word .
Then He enunciate to them,“Thus it is write , and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to risefrom the utter the third day , and that penitence and remission of sinfulness should be prophesy in His name to all nation , get down at Jerusalem . And you are witnesses of these things . Behold , I send the Promise of My Father upon you ; but lounge in the city of Jerusalemuntil you are endued with power from on high . ”
The Ascension
And He led them out as far as Bethany , and He lifted up His hand and blessed them . Now it get to pass , while He bless them , that He was break up from them and carried up into heaven . And they worship Him , and returned to Jerusalem with great delight , and were continually in the temple praise and bless God . Amen .
