One of my fellow gardeners in the Las Vegas , NM expanse , Gene , require me about strawberry and I thought what a undecomposed station it would make .
TYPES : Strawberries come in three case : June Bearing , Day Neutral and Everbearing .
June put up strawberry : The most traditional Charles Edward Berry that produce a single crop in former spring or June and are largest in size of the 3 character . They produce for a 2 - 3 hebdomad period . It is the character I have . I got them from a friend who was thinning out her strawberry bed and I plant them 3 years ago so I ’m not certain what variety but for indisputable they are June bearing eccentric cause that ’s when I reap . Give them room cause they will take over area . I ’ve already let it circularise out twice but I love strawberries so I do n’t care . This wintertime I got hit intemperately with the utmost inhuman temperature and sight about half but I ’m sure they ’ll issue forth back .

Day inert strawberries : They produce continuously throughout the summertime . They have smaller berries and fewer runners . These would be good for limited place .
Everbearing strawberries : Produce 2 - 3 crops per twelvemonth - one in June , then late summer and again in declivity . They also have small berries and few runner . These would also be good for circumscribed space .
VARIETIES : You’ll have to do some research to hear more about these varieties list here :
PLANTING : With all strawberries , they like a dirt with lots of compost so be certain to heavily rectify your soil before planting the plant . works in full sun . excavate a hole that will accommodate the roots in the soil but be certain to keep the crown at or just above the ground level - otherwise it may rot . flora about 18″ apart . Do n’t worry if that seems like a lot of space , each plant will put out Caranx crysos and babe plant from the runner and shortly it will fill in .
Pick off any flush the first class so the plant can put it ’s energy into growing instead of making yield .
Harvest the second and third yr and then thin out , taking the original ‘ mother plant ’ leaving elbow room for the babies . The baby will produce more yield if you slim down out as the original plants will slack down . So dig them out , start a raw patch or give them to a friend . June bear case put out a lot of runners and baby plants every yr and must be thinned out for sure every 3 years . cut off the runners if they are running over your boundaries . I do n’t live about the other types and how much they ladder .
auspices : Now to keep the birds from eating them – I DON”T utilize that ‘ bird ’ netting as I receive a small shuttle enchant in one and it cash in one’s chips and I feel awful so now I just cover the patch with row covert . I can water justly through it and just rip it back to harvest . Much better . This is my third year so I will see how many I get what with the wintertime damage . Last yr ( second year ) I got a ton and they were gravid !
For winter protection , some hoi polloi put about 6 inch of straw over them after it freezes . I do n’t incommode , maybe I should have this past winter !
