Four years ago we bought some various pit - yield from the foodstuff and put the seeds in the fridge to germinate . We were charter at the clock time , and did n’t take care of the potted tree very well in the high temperature of summer and through our move . We also planted some in our previous Grocery Row Gardens , and were able to transplant them to the new ones . A few of the original seedlings survived and were plant here and there when we moved .
I suppose the Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree we planted in the Grocery Row Gardens was a Prunus persica , but it was a nectarine alternatively . Now it ’s about 20′ improbable and has little fruit all over it .
Here ’s the first batch we brought into the home :

They are not beautiful , and they are a mo small , but they are luscious .
The tree has been remarkably healthy and needs a Brobdingnagian pruning to get it back down to the right size for the space . Last yr we countenance it go , and this saltation it was covered in blooms – and then some of the flush developed into fruit . Rachel was the first to notice that they were n’t fuzzy , like the fruits on the two peach seedlings a couple of rows over .
Nectarines are just peach without fuzz , and I had forgotten what - all we had planted from the grocery .

What a nice surprisal ! engraft yield trees from seminal fluid is a quite a little of fun , especially if you ca n’t commemorate what you plant .
Though I normally give talks on food timber and Florida gardening when I speak in the Sunshine State , in my next talk at the end of this calendar month , I ’ll be talking about why seed - grown yield trees are so special .
