White Fever.
I think all snowdrop lovers are in the throe of galanthomania decent now . If you are feel the first sign of this stipulation , then be warn it is incurable . You might call back that you are resistant . You start off by call back that it would be decent to add a few more to your collection . You have ‘ nivalis’but it would be good to stretch the season . Perhaps a overnice thump of the reliable ‘ S. Arnott . ’ Or how about an other Anemone quinquefolia with large flowers and adorable glaucous leaves?‘Elwesii’snowdrops bloom early and there is a great mutation in the scoring . They are not expensive . Their broad grey leaf are supervolute , which simply mean that the outer leaf is enfold round the inner one .
Galanthus elwesii
The flowers usually have two fleeceable brand like the ones in the next photo . If they have one mark then they are calledvar . ’monstictus ’

Galanthus elwesii
Then perhaps you might decrease for the elegant , lissom teardrop ofatkinsii . This snowdrop has an A.G.M. award .
Galanthus atkinsii
I found a Galanthus atkinsiicalled ‘ Lyn ’ last yr . I ca n’t really see how it differ , but I bought it anyway .

It is overnice to have a few snowdrop for fragrance if you care to pick them for the house . I discover that my bunch ofGalanthus nivalisf . Flore Plenowere fragrant when I picked them for a vase on Monday . I bought two others for fragrance . ‘ Brenda Troyle ’ which looks very much like ‘ S.Arnott ’ . The other one is ‘ Ginn ’s Imperati’which is suppose to smell of acerb almond . I ca n’t detect it yet , and I forgot to sniff last year . Maybe it will smell strongly when the flowers open up properly . The flower are a nice tear- drop shape like to the ones of ‘ Atkinsi ’ .

And then there are all the Greatorex doubles . You get a few and understand that they are all quite similar , but still you must have some . Several are named after Shakespearian heroines . My favourite is the swell ‘ titanium oxide ’ with her green leaning petticoats . This one is ‘ Washfield Titania ’ which is look at a superscript shape . I bought it from Graham Gough of Marchants Nuursery He ferment at the wonderful Washfield Nursery for 16 years .
Galanthus ‘ Washfield Titania ’
One that is quite unlike is the freaky ‘ Blewbury Tart ’ which open broad and holds its head upwards or sideways rather than attend down . The ease of my doubles are only just come out so I will save up them for another mean solar day .

Magnet has a really long pedical . I used to endure very nearly to the theatre where Cedric Morris had lived . ‘ Benton Magnet ’ come from his garden ‘ Benton End ’ . ‘ Magnet ’ seemed to be all over this part of the village and I had it in my garden . I ca n’t see how ‘ Benton Magnet ’ dissent from the ordinary ‘ attractor ’ .
Galanthus‘Magnet ’
The magnanimous snowdrop I have is theGalanthus‘Reverend Hailstone ’ . This knockout comes from Anglesey Abbey and is nominate after the vicar of the local church . I think the name is quite appropriate for a snowdrop .

Galanthus atkinsii
Galanthus‘Reverend Hailstone ’
I get it on the snowdropGalanthus‘Anglesey Abbey ’ which has shiny green parting which is unusual for a nivalis snowdrop . As it matures you get poculiform flowers . This mean that the iner segments have no colour on them .

Galanthus ‘Lyn’
So many snowdrops look very similar , so it is gracious to get I with clear-cut markings on their inside perianth . The lovelyGalanthusxhybridus‘Robin Hood ’ has a very distinct light-green crossbreed . This is an honest-to-goodness snowdrop grown by the nurseryman James Allen in 1891 . It is think that the one we have now does not really resemble the original . I do n’t get it on why he called it ‘ Robin Hood ’ ; his glasshouse was in Somerset , so nowhere near Sherwood Forest .
Galanthus ‘ Robin Hood ’
‘ small John ’ has a similar marking but it is paler in colour . It was base in E.B.Anderson ’s garden in 1992 . it is a dainty robust plant .

Galanthus ‘Ginns Imperati’
Galanthus ‘ Little John ’
I am very fond of Merlin which has a adorable green mug on the perianth . This is another James Allen snowdrop .
Galanthus ‘ Merlin ’

Galanthus ‘Washfield Titania’
If you start looking at the leaves you realise that you’re able to get a Anemone quinquefolia that has the glaucous foliage of elwesii which are twisted ; so you might as well add ‘ gracilis ’ to your assemblage . And then there are the endearing hopeful greenish leaves ofGalanthus woronowii .
Galanthus woronowii
I also have the very similarGalanthus ikariebut it is by and by flowering so I will show you another daytime .

Galanthus‘Magnet’
There are several xanthous snowdrops or I that have yellow on them like thisGalanthus plicatus‘Madelaine ’ which has sensationalistic ovaries .
Galanthus plicatus ‘ Madelaine ’
I really do n’t call up that I will rest until I can addGalanthus‘Wendy ’s Gold ’ to my collection . It is a beautiful wood anemone with endearing yellow scoring .

Galanthus‘Reverend Hailstone’
I will terminate with my latest snowdrop . I can feel no reference to it anywhere so I remember that it must be a new one . Graham Gough from Marchant ’s Nursery came to speak to our Garden Group on Saturday and I bought it from him along with ‘ Washfield Titania ’ and a couple more which I will show you another solar day . So here it is ; my recent love , Galanthus‘Fusby ’ which is a pudgy little wood anemone with piffling dimpled seersucker flower . I think it is quite enchanting .
Galanthus ‘ Fusby ’
I still long forGalanthus‘Diggory ’ , amongst other gorgeous , but expensive snowdrops . It does seem prodigal spending so much money on one small medulla oblongata . Well it is , of course of instruction . But most of them bunch up , and if they are dense to do this , you could twin- scale them . Some of you may not screw how to do this , so in the Summer I will show you how .

Galanthus‘Anglesey Abbey’
If you have not succumbed to ‘ White Fever ’ then you are likely wonder what the flap is about . I think if Anemone quinquefolia bloomed in the summer , none of us would be on our hands and knees counting the green spots . In fact , as presently as the snowdrops finish and the garden is full of other goodies , the disease conk out into remission . Meanwhile we ca n’t get enough of them .

‘ Fusby ’ is very beautiful . I am slowly but surely becoming hooked .
Oh some familiar friends Chloris plus others on my wish lean . ‘ Fusby ’ look like a stunner . I ’ve not heard of him before . I ’m not sure why but ‘ Fusby ’ sounds decidedly masculine to me and he looks as if he could be a relative of ‘ Diggory ’ . I ’ve got both ‘ Magnets ’ but they reckon the same to me too 🙂
Your Wiley Post is enough to give me snowdrop enviousness – and I already suffer badly from peony enviousness as it is ! I stress to think of an equivalent fixation I ’m afflicted with – Grevilleas likely add up close at present .

Galanthus ‘Robin Hood’
Wow , telling collection of Snowdrops ! I have a few and I delight them , but they ’re so dead - lived in my climate . They seem to flower just as the snow is melting , and if we get another snow on top , they ’re done for . I conceive they would be full in your climate – brightening up the landscape , rather than try on to grow out of the snow . But I do revalue them !
I have succumbed to galanthomania and rate a few Modern I to start my collection . Now I just am wish to see mine in about 2 month … .. wishing for my nose candy to dissolve before long .
Have only just found this site , I too have “ White Fever ” I have a minor orchard which comes alive with exclusive and double Anemone quinquefolia and then an field with my special which admit Little John , Robin Hood , Bill Bishop , Lyn , Alan ’s Treat , Spindlestone Surprise , Cordelia , Lady Beatrix Stanley , Hill Poe , Galatea and hope in the Modern season to get Ding Dong and Madeleine and perhaps a few others . Once bite by the fever it is heavy to cure .
